Affiliate Disclosure
How this site makes money, and the structural reason affiliate commission cannot shape a ranking here.
The short version
Riffle & Reel earns a commission when you buy something through a link on this site, at no extra cost to you. You pay the retailer's normal price; the retailer pays us a percentage. That is the entire business model — there is no paid advertising on this site, no sponsored posts and no subscription.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. The site's Associates tracking tag is `ml-rifflereel-20`, and you will see it appended to the destination of any product link you follow.
What an affiliate link looks like here
Every product link on this site is marked. Specifically:
- Buy buttons read Check price on Amazon and carry an `#ad` marker with a link back to this page.
- Every commercial page opens with a disclosure block above the first affiliate link, not buried at the bottom.
- Outbound product links carry `rel="sponsored nofollow"`, which is how we declare the commercial relationship to search engines as well as to you.
- Product links route through `/go/` on our own domain before redirecting to the retailer. That exists so the tag is applied in one place in the code rather than copy-pasted across the site — it does not track you personally and it sets no cookie of its own.
Internal links between our own pages are ordinary links and earn nothing. Links to a manufacturer's specification page, an industry standard, or a state regulation are citations and earn nothing either — we cite sources we do not monetize all over this site.
Why commission cannot change a ranking on this site
Most disclosure pages ask you to trust an assurance. Here is the mechanism instead.
Every product link on this site goes to Amazon, under one Associates tag. There is no brand-direct program, no CJ advertiser and no Awin program in play. Because the commission rate is effectively identical whichever product we recommend inside a category, moving a product from fourth place to first place does not change what we earn. The incentive to distort a ranking is not resisted here — it structurally does not exist.
That is a genuinely stronger guarantee than a promise, and it is worth knowing the limit of it: it holds precisely as long as the site stays Amazon-only. If we ever join a program that pays differently, this page will say so, with the program named, before the first link changes. We would rather lose the argument than quietly weaken it.
What we never do
- We do not sell placements. No brand can pay to appear on this site, to be ranked higher, or to have a competitor removed.
- We do not accept payment for a score or a review, and no brand sees a page before it publishes.
- We do not publish fabricated reviews, testimonials or ratings. There are no customer reviews on this site at all — not aggregated, not quoted, not invented to fill a layout.
- We do not publish prices, so we cannot be accused of advertising a price a retailer will not honor. Every product shows a live-price link instead.
- We do not write about products we cannot verify as currently sold. Several products that came up in research were left off the site for exactly this reason.
What we are not
MadGrey LLC is a publisher, not a retailer. We do not sell gear, hold stock, process payments, or handle returns. If something you bought through a link here arrives damaged or does not fit, the retailer is the party who can help you — we have no access to your order and no way to see that you placed one.
Nothing on this site is professional safety advice. Wading moving water carries real risk; the wader and boot pages explain what the gear does and does not do, but the judgment on any given day is yours.
