Privacy Policy
No accounts, no newsletter, no cookie of our own. Here is exactly what is collected and by whom.
The short version
- We do not have user accounts, logins, comments or a newsletter.
- We do not sell, rent or share personal information. There is nothing here to sell.
- We set no first-party tracking cookie of our own.
- Two third parties can see your visit: Google Analytics (aggregate traffic measurement) and Amazon (only when you click a product link and land on their site).
- If you email us or use the contact form, we hold that message to answer it.
Who we are
Riffle & Reel is published by MadGrey LLC. For any question about this policy or about data we hold, write to contact@riffleandreel.com, which reaches the owner directly.
What we collect, and why
| What | Collected by | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, referring site | Google Analytics 4 | To see which guides are useful and which are not. Aggregate reporting only — we never attempt to identify an individual visitor | Per Google's retention setting for the property |
| The fact a product link was clicked, and which one | Google Analytics 4 | To know whether a recommendation is useful. Recorded as an event against the page, not against a person | Per Google's retention setting |
| Your name, email, and message | Us, if you submit the contact form | To reply to you. Nothing else — it is never added to a mailing list because there is no mailing list | Until the matter is dealt with, then deleted |
| Your IP address, briefly | Us, at the moment a form is submitted | Rate limiting, so the form cannot be used as a spam relay. Held in server memory only, never written to a database or a log we keep | One hour, then discarded |
| Your visit to Amazon after clicking a link | Amazon | Amazon attributes the referral to our Associates tag so a commission can be paid | Per Amazon's own policy |
The contact form specifically
What you type is emailed to the site owner's inbox and nowhere else. It is not stored in a database on this site, because there is no database on this site. It is not passed to a CRM, a marketing tool or any third party.
The form carries three anti-spam measures you should know about because one of them is invisible: a hidden field real browsers leave empty, a check on how long the page was open before submission, and a per-address rate limit. None of them profile you; all three exist so the form cannot be automated.
Children
This site is written for adults buying fishing equipment and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to us and it will be deleted.
Your choices and rights
- Ask what we hold. Given the above it is almost always “nothing, unless you emailed us” — but ask and we will check and tell you.
- Ask for deletion. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, say so and it will be.
- Opt out of analytics at the browser level, as described above.
- Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control — we run no advertising network and no cross-site profiling, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off here.
Depending on where you live you may have further statutory rights over your personal information. We will honor any such request we can verify; write to the address above.
Links out, and changes to this policy
This site links to retailers, manufacturers and standards bodies. Once you leave, their privacy policy governs, not ours. We have no control over and take no responsibility for what another site does with your data.
If this policy changes, the Last reviewed date in the byline above changes with it. Material changes will be described here rather than slipped in.
